You need a good book (portfolio), and you just need to send your attractive promo cards to all the different fashion magazines that can pay for a photographer on their editorial job.
When they do call you in for the book, you send them your book.
If they like what they see, they’ll hire you for one of their future jobs.
Start with local, or smaller magazines. Get some gigs for the tear-sheets and experience. You may end up paying for some of those jobs, but experience are invaluable.
Good luck.

Get a good book (portfolio) together and pound the streets meeting with picture editors, agencies and design houses.
It is one of the harder areas to be successful in.
To get the book together – hire models and studio space.
You need good professional shots to even get in the door of anywhere.

i too want to get into fashion photography
my best advice is to build your way up to it.
start at your local photography studio if there is one
you may jsut be an assistant at first but you can ask them to show you techniques and lighting
also models may be important for your photo
but remember in fashion, especialy catwalks
they chose skinny models as a “coathanger”
as its the clothes they are selling no the woman in them
so remember its all about the photo
how its composed
and how the photo is portayed as relation to the brief/product.
but a pretty face is good in a photo
so use a pretty friend
or even self portraits
