Minnesota Hockey is the best out there. Canada doesn’t compare. Minnesota is just the place for hockey.
coolsauce2 posted: 30 Oct at 10:21 pm
People are saying nothing can compare to this, in popularity it’s probably true but I don’t doubt that there are other highschool teams from around the U.S. that could compete with the teams in this tournament.

the only problem with what your saying about Canadian high school hockey is that there is jounior and if you play jounior hockey your not aloud to play high school at least in ontario im sure the teams are good in MN but if they play against and OHL team theyll get killed
sintennisrulz posted: 03 Nov at 7:43 pm
i know ontario high school hockey teams that are better than these teams so if you are talking skill level Canada is still better but in terms of the size and intensity of the Minnesota State High School Hockey tournament I would agree that it is bigger and better, you’ve got teams playing games at the Xcel Energy Centre that are broadcasted on national tv.

Football is boring anyways you stand around more than you play but i dont wanna get into that.

No, I wouldnt think Ontario High School teams are better. If you’re good in canada you play in the O, or another junior league. High school hockey in canada is probably the least popular, you have to understand that these high school players in MN consistently have NHL Draft picks, including the Wild’s first round pick at #16, as well as the Canuck’s first round pick. When was the last time an ontario high school hockey player got drafted?
sintennisrulz posted: 11 Nov at 2:38 pm
I agree that high school hockey is the least popular but there are still AAA players that don’t get drafted that are better than Minnesota players. TJ Oshie was the best Minnesota high school player and now he’s a decent NHLer. Cody Hodgson who went to my high school in Ontario was the MVP at the World Juniors last year and would have been playing for Vancouver this year if not for an ankle injury. I guess its based on perception i havent seen minnesota players and u havent seen ontario players
MNhockeydangler posted: 11 Nov at 8:16 pm
Didn’t Hodgson play for Brampton in the OHL? Current NHLer’s that played high school in Minnesota are Erik Johnson-#1 pick overall, Keith Ballard, Jamie Langenbrunner, Alex Goligoski, Jason Blake, Kyle Okposo, Balke Wheeler, David Backes, Paul Martin…the list goes on. I don’t normally namedrop but Im just trying to prove my point. I will agree though that we do have different perceptions of all this coming from different places.

high school hockey in canada sucks
good players in canada go the AAA, junior A, Major junior route not high school hockey
Mid level MN high school teams would walk over Ontario HS teams
Come on who was the last player drafted by the nhl out of a canadian high school program?
There’s hasn’t been one in over 20 years…
Minnesota had 14 LAST year…

not just broadcasted on national tv… its broadcasted worldwide because of the internet. I know a lot of people from mn that are in Iraq and other over sea countries watch the tournament.

There is nothing that compares to Minnesota High School hockey in the united states, its just that good. The only thing comparable and even better is the Major Juniors in Canada like the WHL and OHL.
